The Partnership Acceptance Learning Sharing (PALS) program is making a positive impact across Western Australia by supporting cultural activities in schools and kindergartens. PALS Grants Foster Cultural Understanding in WA Schools
$796,000 Awarded for Reconciliation Initiatives
A total of $796,000 in grants has been distributed across the state, funding 288 projects that promote understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal culture. From storytelling and language classes to theatre, dance, music, and even bush tucker gardening, these initiatives offer students a diverse and engaging way to learn.
Building Bridges Through Reconciliation
The PALS program focuses on five core areas: Partnership, Acceptance, Learning, and Sharing. By fostering positive relationships and cultural exchange between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students, PALS aims to achieve lasting reconciliation within local communities.
Deepening Understanding of Aboriginal Cultures
The program recognizes that by integrating Aboriginal histories, languages, and achievements into the curriculum, students gain a deeper understanding of the experiences and diversity within the Aboriginal community.
Funding for Diverse Activities
PALS offers a wide range of funding categories, catering to projects in arts, community relationships, connection to country and culture, inclusive environments, history, and language. Schools and kindergartens can find support for initiatives that align with their specific goals and cultural needs.
Minister Buti Highlights Program Benefits
WA Aboriginal Affairs Minister Dr Tony Buti emphasizes the program’s role in fostering reconciliation. He highlights the value for Aboriginal students to witness their culture being appreciated, shared, and celebrated within the school environment.
Next Funding Round Opens in July
With the next funding round opening in July 2024, more schools and kindergartens will have the opportunity to apply for grants that promote cultural understanding and respect for Aboriginal culture. Schools interested in learning more about the program and the application process can visit the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries website.
