A Celebration of First Nations Voices
“We are thrilled to present a program brimming with thought-provoking and inspiring conversation, poetry, hands-on workshops for young creatives and another year of OUR MOB, celebrating extraordinary artists from across South Australia,” said Celia Coulthard, Adelaide Festival Centre’s First Nations programming executive.
OUR MOB Exhibition: A Visual Feast
From August 3rd to October 12th, the Festival Theatre foyer galleries will come alive with the OUR MOB exhibition. This comprehensive showcase features four key components:
- OUR MOB: Art by South Australian Aboriginal Artists: A diverse collection from established and emerging South Australian talent.
- OUR YOUNG MOB: Art by Aboriginal Artists 18 years and under: A platform for the next generation of First Nations artistic voices.
- Trevor Nickolls OUR MOB Award supported by Adelaide Festival Centre Foundation solo exhibition by Samantha Gollan: A dedicated exhibition by a particularly noteworthy artist.
- Don Dunstan Foundation Prize solo exhibition, created by 2023’s Emerging Artist Award recipient, Lesley Coulthard: Highlighting a rising star in the Aboriginal art scene.
OUR WORDS: Inspiring Conversations
Complementing the visual feast of OUR MOB is OUR WORDS. This program offers a dynamic platform for First Nations writers and creatives to engage with audiences through:
- defi-Nations: A celebration of the rich tapestry of First Nations languages through contemporary poetry.
- Panels and Talks: Featuring renowned names like Leanne Betasamosake Simpson, Joy Harjo, Alexis Wright, and Tracey Rigney. These events explore themes of storytelling, reconciliation, and the power of Indigenous voices.
- Workshops: Like “Painting and Culture with Iteka” and “OUR YOUNG WORDS: with Charmaine Ledden-Lewis,” offering hands-on experiences for young people and families to delve into the world of book illustration and First Nations art.
