Cairns Indigenous Art Fair: A Unique Opportunity for First Nations Models to Shine

Under the theme “Country Speaking ‘Light the Fire'”, the curatorial team at Cairns Indigenous Art Fair (CIAF) invites aspiring and experienced First Nations models from across Queensland to apply for participation in the eagerly anticipated fashion showcase. The deadline for applications is Friday, June 7, encouraging applicants to submit their details promptly.

Opportunity for Personal and Professional Growth

CIAF’s fashion coordinator, Lynelle Flinders, highlights that this opportunity is an excellent chance for young models to build self-confidence and expand their networks. “For anyone thinking about applying but unsure if they have the right experience or look – just do it. This amazing opportunity opens doors to building self-confidence, empowerment, making new friends, and potentially a career in fashion,” Flinders says.

Diverse and Distinguished Participation

This year’s fashion performance will feature a diverse mix of new and experienced Indigenous models of all ages, showcasing collections from 12 First Nations designers in Queensland. The CIAF fashion show is renowned for presenting a wide array of Indigenous artists and designers.

Platform for Creativity and Networking

The CIAF fashion performance is not only an artistic platform allowing creativity to flourish but also an opportunity for designers and creatives to network and form professional relationships within the fashion and arts industries. The aim of the fashion performance is to promote contemporary Indigenous design and empower Indigenous youth by representing their identity and heritage.

A Cultural Highlight

CIAF is a significant event on the national cultural calendar, offering various events each year, including the Art Fair, Art Market, Fashion Performance, Music in the Park, Symposium, and more. This year, CIAF will celebrate its 15th anniversary season from Thursday, July 25 to Sunday, July 28, 2024.
