Southern Queensland Welcomes Groundbreaking St George Community Wellbeing Centre
Managed by Goondir Health Services and bolstered by a $2 million investment from the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC), the centre is poised to become a hub of empowerment and holistic care. With over 40 health and wellbeing programs, it seeks to tackle various community health challenges, including smoking, obesity, alcohol intake, and chronic diseases.
The conversion of a former RSL club into the St George Community Wellbeing Centre signifies a creative repurposing of space to meet the expanding needs of the community. This multi-functional centre not only hosts health and fitness programs but also serves as a venue for training, research, and social enterprise activities, ensuring its sustainability and long-term impact.
Vlad Matic, Goondir Health Services’ clinical services executive, underscores the importance of a holistic approach to healthcare delivery, emphasizing the centre’s role in addressing the health and social determinants that influence overall wellness. CEO Floyd Leedie echoes this sentiment, highlighting the centre’s potential to streamline healthcare services for both providers and recipients.
Joe Morrison, ILSC Group CEO, applauds Goondir’s remarkable achievement and reaffirms the corporation’s commitment to supporting Indigenous healthcare initiatives. He emphasizes the significance of accessible healthcare services for First Nations peoples, regardless of their geographical location, underscoring the vital role played by the St George Community Wellbeing Centre in fostering positive health outcomes.
