Renowned Far North Queensland performer and storyteller David Bindi Hudson is gearing up to tour his autobiographical play ‘From Campfire to Stage Light’ across Queensland in June 2024. The tour will take Hudson to 10 theatres across the Sunshine State, starting in Cairns and concluding in Toowoomba. Tour Dates and Locations
The tour kicks off with a three-night session in Cairns from Thursday, June 13, to Saturday, June 15. From there, Hudson will make one-night stops in the following cities:
- Caloundra
- Townsville
- Ipswich
- Gladstone
- Mackay
- Bundaberg
- Logan
- Gold Coast
- Redlands
The tour will culminate in Toowoomba on Saturday, July 14.
A Critically Acclaimed Journey
‘From Campfire to Stage Light’ made its world premiere at the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair in 2022. The play, a co-production between JUTE Theatre Company and Didge-Ralia, has since garnered critical acclaim. It is praised as an engaging performance by Hudson, who is a master storyteller and a proud descendant of the Ewamian-Western Yalanji peoples of the Western Far North Queensland region.

Written by Hudson alongside Kathryn Ash and Cindy Hudson, ‘From Campfire to Stage Light’ is a testament to the collaborative effort in storytelling and playwriting. As Hudson prepares to take his one-man show on the road, he hopes to inspire a new generation of artists and performers. “I can’t wait to take Queensland audiences on a personal journey grounded in my connection to culture and Country and commitment to intergenerational knowledge sharing,” he said.

Beyond his artistic endeavors, Hudson is recognized as a QTIC Champion (Queensland Tourism Industry Council), Board Member of QFNTC (Queensland’s First Nations Tourism Council), and Chairman of FPAC (First People’s Advisory Board) – Cairns Regional Council. He has been honored with a Doctorate from James Cook University for services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Culture, along with titles such as Hon. Tourism Ambassador and recipient of the Centenary Medal.
