Celebrating Indigenous Masculinity: Black Bold Brothers Men's Gathering and Fashion Parade

In a powerful display of unity and creativity, the Black Bold Brothers Men’s Gathering event and Fashion Parade are set to make their debut this June. Spearheaded by Aboriginal Elder Aunty Sandra King OAM, this initiative aims to bring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men together for networking, storytelling, and discussions on men’s business. Inspired by the success of the Black Bold & Beautiful Women’s Luncheon events, Aunty Sandra King recognized the need for a similar platform for Indigenous men. She initiated discussions with male members of her community, leading to the creation of this groundbreaking event.

“There’s nothing more powerful than having Black Bold Brothers coming together in one room brainstorming and discussing positive outcomes for the future of our community,” Ms. King said.

The event, scheduled to take place at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, comprises two components aimed at empowering Indigenous men.

The first component will be a culturally competent gathering featuring First Nations guest speakers. Topics such as Black 2 Basics, Boys 2 Men, Culture 2 Career, and Brother 2 Brother will be discussed, with participants developing strategies to enhance resilience, wellbeing, and personal growth.

Leading First Nations businessmen, professionals, and Elders including Michael Connolly, Cameron Callope, Mark Yettica-Paulson, Barry Lea, Phillip Sariago, and Will Muckan will drive these discussions, providing invaluable insights and guidance.

The second aspect of the event, the Black Bold Brother Fashion Parade, promises to be a night of style and celebration. Male Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designers and models will showcase the latest trends in First Nations fashion and accessories, exuding boldness and creativity.

Ms. King expressed her excitement for this creative element, highlighting it as a stylish showcase of First Nations men’s fashion. “After the gathering, we have the National Black Bold Brothers Men’s Fashion Parade in the evening for friends and families to celebrate the talent of our male models and enjoy a stylish showcase of First Nation Men’s Fashions,” she said.

With a career spanning decades in the industry, Ms. King is renowned for her dedication to passing on knowledge and engaging in cultural discussions. Through events like this, she hopes to provide practical, inspiring, and marketable opportunities for First Nations men and women.

The Black Bold Brothers Men’s Gathering event and Fashion Parade exemplify Ms. King’s commitment to supporting and celebrating Indigenous masculinity in engaging, informative, and fun ways. This event serves as a testament to the resilience and creativity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men.
