Fortescue Signs Five-Year Agreement with First Nations Supplier Ngoonee

Fortescue has signed a five-year agreement with the First Nations supplier Ngoonee to supply two water carts for its Solomon iron ore operations in the Pilbara. The business, founded by the brothers of David Armstrong, honors David’s memory after he tragically passed away following an incident at Fortescue’s Solomon Hub in 2021. David was a beloved and respected member of Fortescue’s Solomon Drill and Blast crew. Fortescue Signs Five-Year Agreement with First Nations Supplier Ngoonee

Ngoonee, meaning “brother” in the Noongar language, reflects the strong family and cultural values that are the foundation of the business. The Armstrong family stated, “Ngoonee is a chance for our family to honor David’s memory and turn what has been the worst few years we have gone through into something that Dave would be proud of. We’re also aware of the potential that the successful management of Ngoonee could not only bring to our family but also to the wider Noongar community, and for that, we cannot thank Fortescue enough. Fortescue has been nothing but supportive and respectful throughout this whole ordeal. Ngoonee is not only a legacy that Dave leaves us, but it also represents Dave, and we will treat it with the respect that it deserves.”

To ensure the successful implementation and support of this agreement, the Indigenous Share Services Group (ISSG) under Brindabella will assist in managing the contract. This collaboration will leverage ISSG’s extensive experience and resources to support Ngoonee in delivering high-quality services to Fortescue throughout the contract period.

Fortescue’s Director of Communities, Government and Environment, Warren Fish, said, “This partnership is a true testament to all involved, who live and breathe the Values while honoring the late David Armstrong. Ngoonee and Fortescue are deeply committed to seeing this partnership flourish to its full extent. I congratulate Brindabella, ISSG, Ngoonee, along with our Procurement and First Nations Business Development teams who have all worked hand in hand to make this partnership happen. We look forward to a successful partnership with Ngoonee and the continued support from ISSG.”
