Celebrating Culture and Unity: Indigenous Children’s Day in Tamworth

Youngsters to Shine at Indigenous Children’s Day Event

Tamworth’s Birrelee MACS (Multi-functional Aboriginal Children’s Service) Childcare Centre is gearing up for an exciting event as they prepare to take centre stage on Friday, August 2. The children will be part of the vibrant celebrations for the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day, hosted by Tamworth for the second consecutive year.

Organized by the NSW Department of Education, this event promises a day filled with cultural pride and community spirit. Local students, along with notable performers such as Uncle Johnny Huckle of “Wombat Wobble” fame, will showcase their talents through singing and dancing performances. Adding to the excitement, Indigenous actor and Play School host, Luke Carroll, will host the event and present a special Play School live concert.

Birrelee director Rachel Phillip expressed her enthusiasm for the day, emphasizing the significance of the theme “Strong in Culture, Stronger Together.” She said, “Knowing the department has chosen Tamworth for this year’s celebration and the theme being what it is, I’m honoured and I know our community is honoured, because if we look at how strong our children are in culture, we know that they are.”

This celebration is not just an event; it’s a testament to the strength and unity found in cultural heritage, bringing the community together to honor and support the next generation.
