Celebrating Indigenous Education and Cultural Empowerment: Nalderun’s Grant Success
Nalderun Education Aboriginal Corporation, meaning ‘all together’ in Dja Dja Wurrung, stands as a beacon of community-driven empowerment. Led by cultural advisor and Dja Dja Wurrung Elder Uncle Rick Nelson, the corporation is dedicated to fostering meaningful connections between First Nations youth, local Elders, and their rich cultural heritage.
“We believe by moving forward together we can make the change needed for First Nations youth to thrive,” expressed Uncle Rick Nelson, reflecting on the profound impact of Nalderun’s mission.
CEO Kathryn Coff echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of Bank Australia’s support in nurturing pride and self-esteem among Indigenous youth. “Through this, can we provide meaningful relationships and support them to be proud, and know how deadly they really are,” Coff affirmed.
Bank Australia’s commitment to community support shines through its Customer Community Grant program, which prioritizes projects fostering positive change. Head of impact management Jane Kern highlighted the program’s alignment with customer values, particularly emphasizing First Nations recognition and respect.
“Our customers tell us First Nations recognition and respect is important to them, and we know the impact these grants can have to support these great organisations,” Kern noted.
The grants program, part of Bank Australia’s broader Impact Fund, allocates a portion of the bank’s annual profits towards initiatives promoting social, environmental, and cultural well-being. Since its inception in 2016, the program has contributed over $2 million to 149 projects, spanning diverse areas such as climate action, LGBTIQ+ inclusion, and gender equality.
“We’re proud to support Nalderun so they can continue their important work,” Kern affirmed, underlining Bank Australia’s commitment to creating a world where both people and the planet thrive.
Through partnerships like these, Nalderun Education Aboriginal Corporation and Bank Australia exemplify the transformative power of community-led initiatives in creating a brighter future for all.
