Empowering Businesses, Closing the Gap

The program, announced by Employment Minister Vicki Ward, offers grants ranging from $5,000 to $100,000. These grants can be used for various purposes, including:

  • Skills Development: Funding for training and accreditation programs to enhance business expertise.
  • Mentorship and Networking: Support for fostering connections with established businesses and mentors.
  • Marketing and Branding: Resources for developing effective marketing strategies and strengthening brand identity.
  • Business Growth: Grants to acquire new assets, conduct feasibility studies, and pursue specialized training opportunities.

Koori Caucus Chair Jason Mifsud emphasizes the program’s significance in bridging the economic gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Victorians. “We will see more Aboriginal people moving from welfare to wages, and from wages to wealth,” he states.

Economic Hubs Foster Collaboration

The initiative extends beyond individual businesses. The $10 million package also includes support for establishing seven economic hubs across regional Victoria. These hubs will serve as central locations for Indigenous-led businesses to connect, showcase their work, and collaborate for mutual success.

Investing in a Sustainable Future

The program is lauded as a “game changer” by both Minister Ward and Premier Jacinta Allan. They highlight the dual benefit – empowering First Nations businesses while contributing to a more prosperous future for all Victorians.
