Naarah, an accomplished actor, singer, radio presenter, and proud Gija woman, has recently garnered significant attention after winning the Creative Talent Award at the 2024 NAIDOC Week Awards. The event, held in Adelaide ahead of NAIDOC Week, saw Naarah accepting her award with grace and gratitude, emphasizing the broader significance of her recognition. In an interview with Style Up, Naarah expressed how much the award means to her, noting that it symbolizes a win not just for herself but for all actors and underdogs. She highlighted the importance of celebrating the achievements of Indigenous artists and the positive spirit surrounding NAIDOC Week this year.
Naarah is passionate about advocating for more opportunities for First Nations individuals in the creative industry. She acknowledged the challenges artists have faced, particularly due to the long-lasting impacts of COVID-19, but remains optimistic about the future. Despite recent setbacks, such as not securing a role in a musical she auditioned for, Naarah is determined to continue pushing boundaries in the arts.
Currently, Naarah is touring Australia, performing at various NAIDOC events, and will soon return to London to work on a project in the West End. In addition to her performing career, she hosts a weekly radio show on ABC Classic called “The Musical Show with Naarah,” where she discusses musical theatre. She has been able to maintain her show even while traveling between Australia and London, showcasing her versatility and commitment to her craft.
