Geelong Cats coach Chris Scott has heaped praise on young gun Lawson Humphries, whose standout performance contributed significantly to the team’s victory over Collingwood. Geelong’s Rising Star Lawson Humphries Impresses in Cats Win
The 21-year-old West Australian has quickly established himself as a key player for the Cats, showcasing exceptional skills and composure in his first three AFL games.
Humphries’ remarkable performance against Collingwood saw him collect 23 disposals at 95% efficiency and take a game-high 13 marks. His ability to make sound decisions under pressure has impressed both teammates and coaches alike.
“You want it getting in his hands because he’ll find someone,” Scott said of Humphries’ impact. “He’s slotted in really nicely.”
The young midfielder’s meteoric rise began at the West Australian Football League club Swan Districts, where he played a pivotal role in their reserves grand final win. Selected by Geelong with pick 63 in the 2023 AFL National Draft, Humphries continued to excel in the VFL before making a seamless transition to the senior side.
Scott expressed his confidence in Humphries’ ability to make a significant impact at the AFL level, and the young player has certainly lived up to expectations. His contributions have been instrumental in the Cats’ undefeated record in the matches he has played.
Teammate Jack Bowes echoed Scott’s sentiments, praising Humphries’ composure and versatility. “I’m still not sure what foot he kicks with, he’s pretty neat on both sides,” Bowes said.
Lawson Humphries’ exceptional start to his AFL career has generated excitement among Geelong fans and the wider football community. As the season progresses, expectations will undoubtedly continue to rise for this talented young player.
