This year’s theme, “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud,” resonates deeply with the Council’s Aboriginal Community Development Officer, Cyril Green. “The theme celebrates the enduring strength of our Indigenous communities and invites everyone to stand together,” he explains.

A Week of Cultural Exploration

The NAIDOC Week Committee has curated a diverse program throughout the week. Here’s a glimpse:

  • Flag Raising & Lunch: Kick things off with a flag raising ceremony and lunch at the University of New England’s Booloominbah Lawns on July 8th.
  • Cultural Activities: Immerse yourself in Indigenous language sessions, weaving workshops, and art displays at the Armidale Town Hall.
  • Community Gatherings: Enjoy a morning tea at the Armidale Hospital, celebrate “Brothers and Tiddas in the Dale” at the McCarthy Building Courtyard, and participate in a free movie night featuring “Bran Nue Dae” and “Aussie Bush Tales” at the ACCKP.
  • Family Fun: Take part in a 3-on-3 Basketball competition at The Den, explore services and enjoy a BBQ at the ACCKP, or get a haircut from the Walkabout Barber.
  • Deadly Fest: Wrap up the week with a lively festival featuring stalls, dancing, and arts & crafts at the Armidale Mall, followed by a Children’s Disco at the Minimbah School Hall.
  • Deadly Fest at Armidale Jockey Club: Don’t miss the grand finale at the Armidale Jockey Club on July 13th for a day filled with fun and festivities.
