Gali Swimwear and TEAMM8 Celebrate First Nations Culture with Vibrant Collaboration

Gali Swimwear’s latest collaboration with Australian menswear brand TEAMM8 is making waves for its celebration of Australia’s First Nations culture through wearable art. The collection features prints created by Worimi-Biripi artist Jake Simon, adorning a variety of vibrant underwear briefs that tell different stories through each design. Simon’s artworks for the collection are deeply rooted in the elements of land, sea, and skies, highlighting the essential components for flourishing in life, with a strong emphasis on saltwater and freshwater elements. Each artwork pattern is as detailed and meaningful as the stories they represent.

As part of the collaboration, Simon was paid royalties for his designs, and $1 from every purchase will be donated to Indigenous community charities nominated by him. Since transitioning from a corporate job to focus full-time on his art, Simon’s work has been a modern translation of traditional art forms, transforming cultural storytelling into contemporary conceptual messages.

“I process my creative talent tapping into my own cultural journeys and childhood memories of family, stories, and country. Bringing color and queerness into a stark world,” Simon said.

The medium of digital art perfectly complements the works created for this collaboration, reflecting Simon’s unique perspective that is both queer and Indigenous.

Gali Swimwear founder David Leslie expressed his excitement about collaborating with TEAMM8 and an extremely talented Indigenous artist like Jake Simon. He emphasized that this partnership not only served as a mentorship opportunity but also provided a platform to showcase Simon’s exceptional talent.

TEAMM8, known for its underwear, swimwear, and activewear, expressed its desire to respectfully showcase First Nations heritage and culture. The collaboration with GALI was seen as a perfect opportunity to fulfill this goal, creating a collection that celebrates Indigenous artists from around Australia.

The Gali Swimwear X TEAMM8 collection is not just about fashion; it’s a meaningful expression of culture, creativity, and community, bridging the gap between art and apparel in a way that honors and uplifts Australia’s First Nations people.
